Main Purpose of Job
To support people with a learning disability and/or autism into work, via employment support, liaison with employers to maximise work experience and employment opportunities and working in an integrated way with health and wellbeing colleagues

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
• To manage a caseload of job seekers with a learning disability
• To assess individual needs and the barriers they face to employment and develop an action plan with strategies to overcome these barriers.
• To engage with individuals to complete all paperwork and actions according to the contract.
• To work with individuals to actively job search, prepare for interviews, liaise with employers and support into employment.
• To liaise with health and wellbeing colleagues to ensure employment support is complimented by integrated health and wellbeing support bespoke to the individual.
• To set up and manage work trials/placements with employers for individuals – ensuring that these meet the individual’s action plan and employment goals.
• To arrange and complete Better Off calculations and support individuals understanding of these
• To meet monthly individual and centre job targets set by your manager.
• To work as part of a team with other advisors, brokers and agencies to maximise opportunities available to clients.
• To keep all relevant records, including client records, those required under any contracts that UWSE holds and those required by legislation.
• To offer individuals and their carers advice and information on benefits and to keep knowledge updated regarding local and Pan London resources which provide additional help to clients to overcome barriers.

Other Responsibilities
• To engage employers to both increased awareness of the benefits of employing people with a learning disability/autism and their capacity to do so.
• Negotiate reasonable adjustments in the workplace.
• Support people with travel training skills, to improve confidence on public transport.
• Financial awareness training

Working Relationships
• Other Employment Advisers, Job Coaches, Health and Wellbeing Practitioners, Central Services (HR, IT, Contracts, Finance, Fundraising, Tendering), Awards Centre Manager, Social Enterprise Managers.
• Local Authorities, Employers, Clients / parents and carers/DWP

Major Challenges
• Meeting targets for individuals often considered to be furthest from the labour market.
• Working with parents/carers
• Dealing with difficult issues with employers / people we support
• Variety of needs of people we support often dual diagnosis and mental health needs.

• Senior Employment Advisor, Job Coach

In view of the area in which Unity Works operate (providing support to adults with learning disabilities) a full DBS check will be required.

Qualifications/ Attainments
• NVQ Level 3 (or willingness to attain)

Skills/ Knowledge
• Excellent communication skills at all levels
• General knowledge and understanding of the appropriate legislation – Employment Law, Equality Act, Disability Discrimination Act and a basic understanding of the benefits system and Access to Work.
• A thorough understanding of the support needs of vulnerable individuals in relation to gaining employment.
• Ability to analyse and relate individual’s needs and match to jobs and overcome barriers.
• Ability to work independently and use self-management to meet targets.
• Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
• Excellent negotiation skills to liaise with employers and set up job opportunities including arranging reasonable adjustments.
• Communication and presentation skills to carry out training with employers and encourage them to redesign their recruitment and employment processes.
• Initiative, drive and enthusiasm to respond to the unexpected, deal with difficult situations and seek alternative ways to achieve results.
• IT literate and experience of record keeping and electronic record systems.
• Able to carry out assessments of the employment needs of individuals with disabilities and identifying their skills and any gaps and providing advice and guidance.
• An understanding of the importance of integrating Health and well-being for employment
• Knowledge of business case for employing people with a learning disability to support and retain diverse workforce.
• Local labour market knowledge
• Established local networks knowledge.

• Experience of providing advice, guidance and employment support to people with disabilities or other vulnerable group.
• Supporting people with disabilities to look for and gain employment including job hunting techniques, career planning, CV writing and interview/workplace presentation skills.
• Liaison with employers around employing people with a learning disability/autism

• A range of outside interests
