Summary of Duties:

Under the general direction and supervision of the Residential Property Manager, the Specialized Technician provides specialized repairs and technical maintenance services. This includes planning and preparing preventive technical maintenance programs and providing guidance.

Duties include:

  • Carry out direct repairs to residential properties. Some examples include but are not limited to: renovating a bathroom or kitchen; regularly descaling and disinfecting taps, showerheads and hoses for legionella prevention; sanding down and re-staining wood flooring; installing new flooring; re-tiling; renewing plumbing fixtures (taps, showerheads, handrails); installing a new shower tray; pinpointing the source of a leak to a roof or pipe and fixing it to ensure it doesn’t come back; unblocking drains; changing door handles and locks; making good to walls and ceilings after a leak; masticing and sealing showers and baths; regrouting; changing light fixtures and plugs;
  • providing technical advice and recommendations to management on work to be done;
  • providing project progress reports and written technical assessments on scope, solutions and cost estimates for projects or specialized work;
  • ordering and recommending the purchase of specialized equipment and tools;
  • conducting research and analysis on various methodologies and technologies to resolve problems;
  • maintaining a network of contacts with local service providers, suppliers and contractors;
  • conducting inspections pre- and post-occupancy, including any outfitting that may be required;
  • overseeing and inspecting the work of contractors on occasion;

Area of Selection:

Open to applicants who are legal residents or citizens of the United Kingdom, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Education:

  • Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
  • Consideration will be given to any formal education/qualifications, or any length of time spent in an apprenticeship.

Language:

  • Fluency in English (oral and written).

Experience:

  • Must have recent and significant work experience in an area of expertise, i.e. electricity, heating, plumbing, and/or HVAC

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:

  • Specialized knowledge in relation to the area of expertise (electricity, heating, plumbing or ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Able to understand and comply with relevant legislation, codes and standards as required.
  • Basic computer skills, i.e. ability to use Microsoft Outlook email software
  • Ability to prepare written technical assessments on scope, solutions, and cost estimates for projects or specialized maintenance/repair work;
  • Client focus;
  • Ability to take the initiative and prioritize as required;
  • Ability to problem solve exercising good judgement;
  • Teamwork

Asset Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Ability to provide specialized repairs and technical maintenance services in more than one of the areas indicated above;
    Ability to assist with audio-visual equipment set-up and troubleshooting

Operational Requirements:

  • Willing and able to work extended hours on occasion, sometimes with little advance notice;
    Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday on a schedule to be arranged with the supervisor.

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

– Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

– Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

– Other conditions of employment:

  • Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability security screening (including a criminal record and credit check).
  • The successful candidate must have the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.
  • Valid driving licence
