Volunteer Manager – ideally on self-employed basis

Volunteer Manager  Purpose 

SE24 is a Community Benefit Society whose mission is to encourage and develop locally-owned renewable energy and energy conservation projects, so that we can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels to help meet Net Zero targets, and put money back into the local community to challenge fuel poverty. See www.se24.co.uk

We partner with local schools, churches, and charities to deliver on this mission. We provide them with a complete service that covers surveys, fund-raising, installation, and on-going maintenance.  To date we have installed solar PV panels and/or LED lighting at 8 sites in our locality and we are ambitious to complete more installations.

SE24 is run by a small group of volunteer directors who are looking for an experienced and dynamic Volunteer Manager to create and support a multi-disciplinary team of volunteers to help us develop more projects in our locality.

Main Responsibilities 

The role of the Volunteer Manager will be to coordinate and manage the creation and maintenance of a list of engaged volunteers across a range of disciplines who can help us deliver the various stages of each project.

Working closely with our partners and funders, the VM will:

  • design and manage an on-going recruitment process for volunteers who want to be involved in SE24 activities
  • assess the skills and capabilities and availability of the volunteers and keep a register of these including references
  • induct and keep the volunteers fully informed of SE24 activities and of upcoming projects
  • oversee (in conjunction with an appropriate director) the output of volunteers when they are engaged in a project
  • ensure (in conjunction with an appropriate director) that monitoring, and evaluation data is collected to measure impact against agreed outcomes
  • be responsible for reporting to the board on the volunteer register and the outputs of the volunteers
  • support the volunteers with any non-technical issues affecting their contribution
  • provide administrative support for the project where required, processing volunteer expenses and maintaining volunteer contact and availability databases.
  • oversee the writing of funding applications to further the work of SE24

Where the need or opportunity arises the volunteer manager will attend networking events and explore new partnership opportunities.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Minimum of two years’ line management experience of volunteers
    • Experience of ensuring volunteers’ personal development and progression
    • Project management experience
    • Experience of reporting against targets and to funders
    • Ability to manage own time and workload
    • Proven IT skills.

Desirable:

  • An interest in renewable energy, energy conservation and sustainability.
  • Familiarity with the community energy sector
  • Experience of fundraising/ income generation
