Job Description
We look after pre-school children ranging from 6 months to 5 years old in a large house In East Dulwich.  We are open 8-6 Mon-Fri.  We are a bilingual Spanish setting with approximately half the staff being Spanish speakers.  We are working towards becoming a Curiosity Approach accredited setting and all staff will be involved in this and provided with specific training.

Your responsibilities will include supporting children in play and learning activities, everyday care routines such as meal and sleep times, observing and record keeping of children’s development and planning to meet their individual needs supported by establishing positive relationships with parents and carers.

Your day to day duties will be:

  • Helping to prepare and feed children meals, snacks and drinks.
  • Changing nappies or helping with potty/toilet training.
  • Teaching general life skills, such as basic hygiene and manners.
  • Helping to get the children safely to and from farms, parks, soft play etc if on outings.
  • Closely supervising children during activities and ensuring the environment is safe.
  • Developing positive relationships with children, parents, other staff and members of the household to ensure children and parents feel happy and comfortable with the provision.
  • Planning and delivering stimulating activities to enable the children to develop in all the EYFS key areas such as arts and crafts, numeracy, literacy, music and physical development.
  • Tidying away resources and cleaning up after meals in line with health and safety and food hygiene requirements.
  • Helping to track and record the children’s development and experiences using an online software programme.
  • Be familiar with all the policies and procedures such as safeguarding, data protection and emergency evacuation procedures and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Be familiar with Ofsted requirements and how to ensure they are met.
  • Any other appropriate duties as requested by the Managers.

  • A warm, caring and patient nature.
  • Be committed to diversity and equality.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and professional skills in liasing with staff, parents and other practitioners in the groups we visit.
  • The ability to work with young children and their families in a sensitive and positive way.
  • A sense of responsibility and excellent time keeping are essential as we are such a small team.
  • Creative ideas for activities.
  • Good written English skills for recording children’s progress.
  • An interest in child development.
  • Some basic cooking skills or a willingness to learn.
  • A willingness to support nature play in particular.
  • Appropriate professional appearance (practical casual own clothes to be worn).
  • Demonstrates a high level of honesty and integrity.
  • Some basic Spanish would be an advantage but is not essential, as would any extra skills like the ability to play an instrument or gardening/nature play skills.
