Role purpose

Working under the direction of the Hospitality supervisors and Hospitality Manager your main role will be the delivery, service, setup and collection of all hospitality services. The role will support the Hospitality catering services function and provide a professional and competent level of service to all customers.

The Department has a strong commitment to customer service and aims to ensure best value for money for its customers and the college. You will work closely with the kitchen & retail teams to ensure that the agreed services are delivered on time and to the required standards.

The role will require you to be able to work on a multitude of events including and not limited to working lunches, buffets, canape receptions & formal dinners.

The role will require you to work across two separate locations; Bush House & Strand pantry. These locations are within the same campus however operate as two different teams.

You will be based at the Strand Campus however you may be required to assist other campuses with events and functions.

This role will require you to be flexible and to work 5 days out of 7 including evenings and weekends.

35 hours per week with paid overtime x1.5 per hour or x2 per hour on Sundays.

27 Days paid annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, plus additional college closure days over the Christmas period.

Permanent contract.

Key responsibilities and objectives of the job.

  • To maintain high standards of customer service at all times. Ensuring you are creating a friendly, welcoming & approachable environment.
  • Assist with the delivery of high-quality food & drink in accordance with hospitality menus.
  • Ensuring all catering is ready on time, in sufficient quantities and presented in an appetising and professional manner.
  • Maintain high levels of hygiene and comply with all Food Hygiene and Health and Safety regulations at all times. Assisting with the cleaning of your work area as required. This is a physical role where manual handling must always be adhered to.
  • To responsibly serve alcohol in line with the rules and regulations set out within the building licences.

Communication & Networking:

  • Liaise with your line manager to ensure they are aware of any concerns or issues relating to your work environment.
  • Advise your line manager of any issues with the general repair, cleanliness or failure of equipment.
  • Direct agency and casual staff and assist them to deliver a professional and efficient service.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings as and when required.
  • To be able to stay updated with college wide communications through college emails.


Decision Making, Planning and Problem Solving:

  • Plan daily workload to ensure all areas are ready and open on time.
  • Address customer requests and enquiries in a polite and efficient manner.
  • Present any customer complaints or compliments to your line manager.


Service Delivery:

  • Display all food and beverages in a neat, appealing and safe way.
  • Effectively operate a till and maintain accurate receipting and accounting of all monies. Cash up a till in line with cash handling policies.
  • Respond to requests for information from customers in accordance with College policies.
  • Actively promote and sell the catering services to customers.
  • Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery within the department.

Teamwork, Teaching & Learning Support:

  • Direct agency and casual staff and assist them to deliver a professional and efficient service.
  • Promote teamwork and assist other members of the catering team when required.
  • To attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required.

Pastoral Care:
• Awareness of the support services available to students and staff within the college.

About the Faculty

The Estates and Facilities Department

The Directorate of Estates and Facilities is responsible for the upkeep of buildings and grounds within the College.  The Department has 5 main functions:

Estates Management – Advising the College on the best use of its space and managing leases.

Projects – Managing new building projects and major refurbishment projects within the existing estate.

Facilities – Maintaining the services and building infrastructure within the estate, managing the use of energy and water to reduce the College’s effect on the environment.  Providing a wide range of support services including catering, cleaning, portering, postal and security services.

Kings Venues – Developing and Managing revenue activities including Conference and Events, Accommodation and Hospitality, leveraging the college estate by providing high quality services and support to external & internal markets.
