Nursery Housekeeper role:

The Nursery Housekeeper is responsible for the general upkeep of hygiene and cleanliness of the nursery.

 Key to the role is to ensure the environment is kept safe, fit and healthy and to protect and promote the safeguarding and welfare of the children.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring the daily thorough cleaning of all nursery rooms, including floor coverings, walls, paintwork, windows, nursery furniture and equipment.
  • Ensuring the daily thorough cleaning of other nursery areas including corridors, hallways, cloakrooms and all other areas of the nursery.
  • Ensuring all nursery washing is done daily and the laundry room is kept clean and organised.

 Safe, Fit and Healthy

  • Ensuring the daily thorough cleaning of the nursery staff room including equipment such as microwaves, fridges, kettles cupboards and furniture.
  • Ensuring the daily thorough cleaning of child and staff toilet areas.
  • Maintaining sufficient supplies of domestic consumables eg. paper towels, toilet rolls, liquid soap, cleaning materials etc.
  • Ensuring rooms are swept up after children lunch and ensure the rooms are ready for afternoon activities and play.
  • Assist with the washing up in the absence of the Chef or Kitchen Assistant.

Entry level qualification in childcare D
GCSE Math and English A-C OR Functional skills Math and English level 2 D
Experience and Skills Essential/Desirable
Completion of a child Development course D
Willingness to further own professional skills E
Ability to speak and write a good level of English. E
Passion and desire to work with children E
Experience in working with children ages 0-5 within any setting D
