The job

We are looking for a passionate and committed individual for the role of Outreach Worker to promote the SPF – Start-up Programme, engage with aspiring, pre-start and start-up entrepreneurs (up to 24 months old) across Southwark and encourage them to take part in various training events that will enable them to develop flexible and sustainable enterprises.



We recently secured Southwark’s SPF – START-UP PROGRAMME tendering contract to deliver business incubation support to prospective, pre-start and start-up entrepreneurs across Southwark, enabling them to develop new business skills and learn how to become confident and efficient start-ups.
The programme delivery will start in October 2022 and will run for 4 years (subject to performance).


Employment conditions

  • Term: one-year contract, renewable (subject to meeting KPIs)
  • Days (Hours): 2 days per week (14 hours)
  • Salary: £8,463 p.a. (pro-rata of £21,157.50 FTE)
  • Pension: 3% employer’s contribution
  • Annual Leave: 11.2 days p.a. (pro-rata of 28 days FTE)
  • Location: hybrid (mainly in community settings across Southwark, with Team meetings at The Africa Centre, SE1)

Main Tasks  

1.Community engagement and outreach

  • Ensure widespread publicity of the SPF – Start-up Programme and distribute publicity materials effectively
  • Engage with and reach out to community members within identified target groups
  • Invite potential participants to various activities and events
  • Enrol participants to take part in programme activities
  • Ensure programme activities and events are well subscribed to and attended by residents, mainly those within target groups (target details to be provided)
  • Work toward recruiting a core group of 60 committed pre-start and start-up entrepreneurs (the Main Cohort) across five Southwark wards
  • Meet outcomes / target numbers.


2. Administration

  • Ensure enrolment processes are complied with
  • Attend main programme events
  • Engage with attendees during programme events
  • Maintain paperless record-keeping system (database)
  • Comply with GDPR
  • Keeps a logbook of outreach works undertaken Attend Team meetings
  • Self-administer.



We are looking for an excellent communicator, committed and enthusiastic individual with an in-depth knowledge of Southwark, its communities and dynamics.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills, qualities and abilities:

  • Clearance of DBS check.
