Southwark Works are pleased to announce the success of a partnership with Galldris that has resulted in 2 local Southwark residents successfully being employed as Groundworker apprentices on the site at Canada Water.

The Canada Water Masterplan is a partnership between British Land, Southwark Council and the local community to create an outstanding new town centre for Southwark and London that complements the local area, making an active, positive, long-term contribution to local life.

Harry  and Reeda  have been supported by Southwark Works and the Construction Youth Trust and were put forward to Galldris for their apprenticeship programme.  After pre- employment sessions, an interview and the successful completion of a work trial, both have become full time employees with Galldris on an apprenticeship programme.

David Wake, Galldris Apprenticeship Manager, said ‘Harry and Reeda have exceeded all expectations, their enthusiasm and motivation made the decision to hire them very easy indeed’.

The Galldris team have recently been supporting a local project at Surrey Docks Farm – installing an L shaped concrete slab, that will enable the bespoke donkey shelter to be erected that will give the animals shade during hot weather and cover during rain. It also increases the wheelchair access for participants engaged at the Farm.

The team from Galldris included Harry, one of the new apprentices, who was born in the area and grew up visiting the Farm as a child.

The 2 Apprentices will be starting their training soon at the Southwark Construction Skills Centre which has a new base at Canada Water.
