Main duties of the job

Using excellent communication skills, you will assist and prioritise patients, supported by computer software to ensure and deliver a quality driven service to our callers. Providing advice or guidance under the direction or supervision of a health care professional, you will ensure appropriate support is given to our patients. In this role, you will also liaise with other agencies and healthcare providers and learn the necessary skills to manage the more challenging calls and situations.

We handle over 1.9 million emergency calls from across the capital every year as well as delivering a 24 hour NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care Service in South East and North East London that we estimate will respond to around 1.4million urgent care calls by the end of the year.

Job description

As a 111 Health Advisor you will have an excellent telephone manner and commensurate communication skills. With experience of dealing with the public over the phone, you will be able to follow and interpret policies and procedures and have the ability to work under pressure and remain calm.

With a minimum of five GCSEs, including English language, NVQ level 3 or equivalent you will be IT literate and enjoy working as part of a team.

In order to be licensed to use the NHS Pathways system you will be required to successfully complete a 5 week training course to provide you with the necessary skills and clinical knowledge. Successful candidates will be required to be available between Monday and Friday (9am – 5pm) for their first three weeks of the training course.

PLEASE NOTE: During your training period, you will receive a trainee salary of £20,230 (including Outer London High Cost Area Supplement). This includes 75% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate and 100% of the Outer London High Cost Area Supplement applicable.

After a 4-week training period, your starting salary will be £24,228 (including Outer London High Cost Area Supplement) rising to £25,675. This salary will be pro rata if your contracted hours are part-time. In addition to this, there will be an unsocial hours payment dependent on rota.

Working patterns: The Emergency service is a 24 hour service, therefore applicants must be flexible to work between 6am(early mornings) and 2am(Midnight).
