Apprenticeship summary

What will the apprentice be doing?

As facade engineering technician at the award-winning consultancy Eckersley O’ Callaghan you will have the chance experience working in all development stage of facade engineering from the conceptual design to the construction supervision.

As part of our team, you will be exposed to all the different disciplines of facade typologies and will learn CAD-detailing and engineering principles on small and large scale projects both international and local.

Working alongside engineers and technicians on international projects you will:

 

  • Assist in creating sketches, details and reports to communicate ideas and solutions to architects and clients
  • Develop façade details in accordance with the architect and environmental requirements, working alongside sketches from the facade engineers
  • Analyse design options and develop proposal for appropriate design solution
  • Attend meetings and help coordinate information
  • Attend site visits to check quality and progress of projects
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing
  • Participate in research and development

Through your work with us you will be trained and gain experience in:

  • CAD drafting skills in Auto-CAD and basics in Revit and Rhino
  • An understanding in design and engineering principles
  • Knowledge about various facade-types and construction methodologies (e.g. curtain walling, structural glazing, rain screen systems, built-up walls, and structural systems)
  • An understanding of the appropriate design considerations
  • Facade detailing from schematic design through to the final contract stage
  • Coordination and communications skills
  • Engineering norms, standards, requirements, and specifications

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Apprentices will achieve BTEC National Diploma in Civil Engineering and Apprenticeship certificate upon successful completion of the End Point Assessment.
  • Prior to taking End Point Assessment, candidate must achieve functional skills level 2 in English and Maths.
  • Apprentices are required to attend college on weekly basis to complete BTEC qualification in City of Westminster College, Paddington Campus, W2 1NB

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • After your apprenticeship ends you will continue to be permanently employed by EOC. Should you pass your apprenticeship we would look to promote you to the position of Facade CAD Technician.
  • Following the successful completion of your apprenticeship, other possible career paths could be CAD Detailer, Design Engineer, Auto CAD Designer, Engineering Technician.
