As a bricklayer, your work would include:
measuring the work area and setting out the first rows of bricks (courses) and the damp course
mixing mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
laying the bricks on top of each other and applying the mortar with a trowel
shaping and trimming bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools
Checking that courses are straight using water or laser spirit levels and plumb lines.
Wage £60 per day
With scope for improvement during apprentice providing apprentice shows commitment and hard work.
8.5 hours per day 4 days a week. Occasionally weekend work. Usually 7.30AM START at site.
NOTE: x1 30 min unpaid lunch break. x1 day at College to study academic learning section of Apprenticeship
With hard work and commitment there is scope for development on pay rates throughout apprenticeship.
After successfully completing the apprenticeship you could move into Bricklaying improver roles and continue to progress with company into a range roles.
Enthusiastic and Willing.
Time keeping and attendance at college and work. Effort and hard work displayed all day from the start of day to the end.
GCSEs including English and Maths, and a CSCS Card desirable.
As long as meets the apprenticeship entry criteria- this is depending on attitude and approach rather than qualifications.
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour. Anyone not covered by the age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate to their age. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
Don’t get to go home just because its cold/raining
Not an easy job – be prepared for hard work.
