As a Ground Transportation Systems (GTS) Rail Apprentice you will follow a three-year programme completing work placements across a variety of disciplines, including signalling and telecommunications. You will attend college where you will continue to enhance your railway education. During the three years you will achieve the relevant safety accreditation to enable you to work on the railway and will gather experience and evidence to attain relevant competencies.
Through our level three apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand rail engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a rail apprentice you will be based in London within the Ground Transportation business, studying at The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, towards your level three qualifications in rail engineering. Year one of the programme will be delivered full-time at college where you will be given a strong grounding in the practical skills required for the role. Year two will be delivered on a day release basis – one day a week at college, four days learning on the job in the business. Year three will be work-based.
During this three year programme you will undertake various work placements, getting to know and experience Thales systems and learning what it takes to be a Telecomm engineer on the railway. Upon completion of the programme you will move into a permanent role within our Ground Transportation Systems business.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in rail and Thales. This programme is suitable for someone with strong team-working and problem solving skills, and a passion for technology and the rail industry.
You will also need:
- 5 GCSEs grade A-C or Level 5 and above, including Maths, English and a Science subject
- Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the three year programme
